Pick your town to check a new house, addition, pool, pool cage, shed, detached garage or deck against the city's setback, height and coverage limits. It's free and you don't need an account.
Prepared with a calculation aid. Not a zoning determination. Confirm every requirement with the municipal zoning officer.

The check above is free. The complete table, with every line filled in and ready to copy or print onto a drawing sheet, is a one-time purchase. One key unlocks every town on this site, for as many projects as you like.
By buying or unlocking the full table you agree to the terms of use at the bottom of this page.
What this checks
It compares a single-family lot and project with the limits in the town's zoning code. A limit only appears if that town's code sets one, so the list changes from town to town.
The lot: minimum lot area, width, frontage and depth.
Where you can build: the front, side and rear yards.
How much you can build: building height, stories, lot and building coverage, and floor area.
Detached buildings and decks: their own yards, height and size, in the towns where these rules have been entered.
What this does not check
Two-family houses, townhouses, apartments and non-residential districts.
Whether a use is allowed in the zone.
Docks, fences, flood elevation and easements.
Wetlands, steep slopes, historic review, easements and deed restrictions, unless the town's page says otherwise.
The building code, and whether a town would grant a variance.
Each town's page has its own full list.
Where the numbers come from
We read each town's own zoning code, usually its online code and its schedule of area, yard and bulk requirements, and enter the limits zone by zone. In many towns we also read newer ordinances that have not reached the online code yet. Each town's page names what was used and when the numbers were last checked. Zoning changes, so confirm every number with the town's zoning officer.
Terms of use
This is a calculation aid. It is not a zoning determination, a permit review, a survey, or legal, architectural or engineering advice, and it does not replace review by the municipal zoning officer or a licensed professional.
The numbers may be out of date, incomplete or wrong. Towns amend their zoning, and some towns here were entered from older schedules, as each town's page says. No one guarantees that any requirement shown is current or correct.
You are responsible for checking. Before you design, apply for a permit, buy property or build, confirm every requirement against the municipality's current code and with its zoning officer.
Not everything is checked. Each town's page lists what it leaves out. Other rules, such as easements, deed restrictions, environmental limits and historic review, can also affect a project.

Visits. The host keeps standard server logs, and Vercel Web Analytics counts page views (which pages, the referring site, country and device type). It also counts steps on this site: which town was checked, how far the check got, and whether the buy button was pressed. The address you type is never included.
